Quotes of the Day!

“It was there, on the night of October 11th, 1975 that I turned on the TV and watched the premiere episode of Saturday Night Live. “Fuck”, I thought, “they did it”. The new comedy had been brought to the airwaves in New York by people I didn’t know. And they were incredibly good at it, too. The show was a heavy blow to my inner belief that I alone was leading the cavalry, and carrying the new comedy flag.”
– Steve Martin, Born Standing Up

(Note: I don’t consider myself as carrying the flag for a new kind of comedy.)

“Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it.”
– C. S. Lewis

Notice a theme? Last night I bought a t-shirt for the girlfriend unit. On the front of the shirt is the following haiku:

Hello Space Robot
That’s the pretend band I’m in
I play the whistle

Below that there’s a picture of a robot. On the back is the blog name.

All this in an attempt to get more people reading the blog, and from there the hope that things will magically snowball. Occasionally I get bummed out, thinking how unlikely it is that I will reach my goal. Thankfully, I enjoy writing when I do write, and any and all compliments that are passed on to me are greatly appreciated. My day is lifted instantly when I come home from work and see that someone has said something nice.

(Note 2: I’m not baiting the hook here. I’m doing more along the line of saying thank you thank you to any folks who comment or say something nice.)

Anyhow – have a good weekend everybody!!

  1. Nice quotes, and cool shirt. But any robots I’ve ever seen lack substantial lips, so is playing the whistle difficult for them, or are “space” robots anatomically different? It’s very important that I get to the bottom of this.

Welllllll Hello Space Robot’s manager is Drekker. If that does anything for you.

      Or is it Drecker?

(I just re-watched Blade Runner. That movie is a bag full of crazy.)

Yeah Mr. Hendrik you are most definitely welcome to a shirt if you want one.

Since I’m stranger danger, I figured I could get a gift card to whatever online shirt store I end up using and then email you the code for the gift card, and you can just use that.

  3. I’m crazy excited about that t-shirt!

oh and you write pretty things about stuff….?

    • DumbFunnery said:

Pretty things! My writing is man–tastic! People read it and think, “did I just eat a steak with a side of bacon?” NO! You just read something by little old moi.

      • I’m pretty sure the fact that you used “moi” to refer to yourself, convinced anyone reading this that your writing is the opposite of “man-tastic.”

also the fact that you put “man” in front of “fantastic”……

  4. Your blog is my home page on my phone

I want one of those shirts

    • DumbFunnery said:

Oh you’re most definitely getting one. And the wife too if she wants one. We can talk about that mess when I’m home (which will be soon!!).

  5. That shirt sounds hilariously awesome!
I’m thinking of getting some shirts made up for a little promotion myself.

There, I commented. Feel better? (Just kidding. I wouldn’t have even thought you were baiting if you hadn’t mentioned it.)
