GO ARMY, BEAT NAVY!

As a Military Brat, and especially as the son of a West Pointer, Go, Army, Beat Navy was a common phrase in my house. This Saturday Army will be taking on Navy and I’m hoping for the correct outcome. Here are some spirit videos with the usual blend of humor.

Big Blog News

This month I am giving NaNoWriMo a shot. For those of you who don’t know, that is National Novel Writing Month.

The idea is that during the month of November you will start and finish a novel, and it has to be at least 50,000 words. If I knew a popular book with that amount of words I would tell you … but I have no idea what that is comparable to.

I do know that if you write every single day then you need to write around 1,667 words per day.

If you are also doing NaNoWriMo, find me and befriend me! My username is DumbFunnery.

In case you are curious, here is the synopsis I have for my “novel” so far (it feels far too ambitious to call it a novel at this point):

Doug Fontaine is a young engineer who has been selected as one of the less than 0.1% of the Earth’s population who will get to live by escaping the Earth.

Mrs. Susan Janet is a teacher who is past the point where she should have retired from teaching high school English – and she is only too glad to mock her students out loud now that she knows the Earth is ending so prior warnings about her behavior mean nothing.

God is debating whether sending that meteor to, in a sense, reboot humankind, was a good idea or not.

We’ll see how this works out for the three of them.

The reason this relates to my blog is because this means I’m going to be a bit lazier with the blog this month. I am thinking a Monday/Wednesday/Friday posting schedule (with the exception of this week). Of course you could always follow my blog (there’s a button on the blog for that), or follow me on Twitter, or like my Facebook page … or all three!, and then you would see whenever I have a new post.

I may continue even after November ends to do the three posts a week format. My hope is that I will spend less time on the blog and spend more time trying to compose query letters, or find magazines to send to, or write things worthy of sending to people/places … Basically, put more effort into what this blog is supposed to be doing (helping me to get published).

Wish me luck with NaNoWriMo (as of tonight I am 1,500 words behind where I should be at this moment … ruh roh).

Observations on the World Series

World Series beard

The thing you have to respect most about the Red Sox is that if they were in a bowling alley in a small town in Michigan they would look perfectly natural

Actually … that’s all I have. I don’t know if it’s living in Houston or what, but baseball hasn’t done much for me this season. I sat down to watch some tonight, and instead ended up watching Stephen Fry clips on YouTube. Which also means my idea of blogging and baseball didn’t happen so … all you have is that one thought I had above.

I really thought other ideas would spring to me but instead I just want chocolate covered raisins and more videos of English people being funny (and sometimes making jokes I don’t get at all because I have no idea what they’re talking about).

(Psst … This post will go under the ‘lazy post’ tag …)
