The intellectual equivalent of a ham sandwich.

Thank You for Coming

Ladies and gentlemen of the press
Stop saying my campaign is a mess
Despite the rumors I’m not here to ‘confess’
I’m …

I am here to explain
That I am not insane
It may cause my wife, mother, father, children, anyone who knows me – pain
(Oh and those who donated to my campaign)

If I’ve said it once I’ve said it 100 times
I’m not behind the incident with those reindeer and mimes
It was, as you know, an evil imposter
Who is no longer gainfully employed on my campaign roster

As for why I had been employing an evil imposter?
I say how dare you sir!!
My campaign manager clearly was in charge of employment
Three strikes you’re out so packing he was sent!

Changing topics, isn’t my wife great?
On a scale of one to five, she’s an eight!
Oh and speaking of eight … let me again apologize
(You know for me it was just as big a surprise)
Me? With multiple personality disorder??
All of you said, ‘well that seems a tall order.’

But it’s the only explanation for my rampant cheating –
And not remembering a single clandestine meeting …
A single hot, steamy, amazing, fantastically good clandestine meeting …

Anyway.
What was I about to say?

Oh! Summer vacation should be a private event
I only had my shirt off for one brief moment …
But the tattoo seen and heard about
Will be removed without a doubt!
(And no, my tattoo will not now be shown
But in case it’s not already known):
‘Lie?
Clarify?
Who will know the difference but I?’
Obviously this does not represent me
Though it sometimes represents my mysterious, yet real, other personality.

And now, if I may, a quick laundry list
Sincerest apologies if there’s anyone I’ve missed –
Sorry to all of the pet shops in this county
Sorry to the Rosemary Hotel’s group that gathers for afternoon tea
Sorry to those, uh, *select* few who found out I have a web camera
For that matter sorry to anyone who ever left me alone with their camera
Sorry to everyone in pages 74, 115, 148, and 96 of any phone books
Sorry, though you’re inanimate, to our lovely parks giant chess board’s two white rooks.

A particular apology to my wife
Who has stood by me all my adult life
Actually that reminds me –
Tight gun control has become very important recently
Like, did you know it’s legal for your spouse to just go buy a gun?
And shoot blanks at you for fun?

Anywho, I digress
I’d apologize to my kids but instead I’ll say: suppress, suppress, suppress

I’m a joker of course
And as my voice is getting hoarse
I will call this to a close
But first a shocking fact so your brain grows –
Out-of-wedlock pregnancy is on the rise
To deal with that I can’t even surmise
I assure you I’m researching this personally
Because an issue is irrelevant unless it affects me

Thank you, I’ve been great!
I’d stay for questions but I don’t like to work that late

Impressively Unimportant

During my sophomore year of college I felt that it was important that I find an internship, and then spend the summer dazzling the world with my fancy intern-capabilities. Or at least the prestigious company I would be interning with. And if not them, then my imagination.

A civil engineering firm that specialized in sewer plans and waste water treatment plant designs took me under its wing. I would be working in the Phoenix office, doing intern-type stuff.

However, this was not how I had imagined it.

I had a phone interview where I said, essentially, I would love to do any work and I love learning about anything and everything. This is not exactly true. Yes, I enjoy learning. “Anything and everything,” though, seems a bit ambitious.
It turns out, I do not particularly enjoy trying to read the handwriting of various people, and then typing what they wrote so that a potential sewer plan could better be developed.

Unfortunately sometimes, I have a good imagination. My imagination tossed logic aside and created amazing scenarios for me to envision happening during the internship. Maybe I would discover the cure to cancer, solve world hunger and make a mean cup of coffee, all on my first day as an intern. I had lofty thoughts – I knew these probably wouldn’t happen, but I hoped for big things.

Instead, I was an intern. And I use that word with the least possible significance it can receive.

However, I had no idea how little impact I had until the last week of work before I would leave to go back to school to start my junior year.

I was assigned the high-priority task of going to a store to get some cardboard boxes. I headed out and was confronted with a problem – what size box! My God! These sorts of details are important to interns!

Over the summer I had been assigned tasks of so little importance that I had to find details somewhere to fret over. “You said you wanted this printed out, Mr. Johnson, but did you want this printed out from the printer up here? Or the printer downstairs?”

No matter how insignificant my task was, I found questions that needed to be answered.

They loved it, I’m sure.

I called my immediate supervisor, a very patient (thank God) woman named Gina. She was not around. Should I call the boss-boss? Or the boss-boss-boss? No, this wasn’t that important.

Instead I called Sukru, a guy who had just started working there that summer. Sukru was one of a small group of people who were in charge of creating “tasks” for me (“I don’t know what to make him do! Is there a clever way we can tell him to play solitaire all the time but make it sound important?”). Every day I saw Sukru. Every day I said hello to him.

Every day I, apparently, made no impact on him at all.

I called the main line and asked to be connected to his desk.

“Hello …”
“Hey, Sukru, how’s it going?”
“Ehh … Good … Thanks …”
“So I’m just wondering what size boxes I should get?”
“Ehh … I am very sorry … Who is this?”
“Oh, sorry. It’s Brad.”
“Who?”
“… Brad … (last name) …”
“…”
“From down. The halllll …” (approximately three cubicles away).
“Ohhh!”

Interns of the world – don’t get your hopes up.

1) Based on your personality, if you were an animal, what animal would you be?

What do you mean if I were an animal? Corrupt CAMEL. Hello? McFly?

2) Everyone else has a super power but you – What super power does everyone else have?*

Even a baby has a super power? Can you imagine the power of that babe?
What babe?
The babe of the power.
What power?
The power of voodoo.
Who do?
You do.
Do what?
Remind of the babe.

[Editor’s Note: The movie Labyrinth freaks me out, but I am impressed/creeped out that a reference to it was at the tip of CorruptCamel’s tongue so this is my way of respecting his answer while not scaring myself.]

3) Why do you blog?

To remind me of the babe.

On a serious note, and because I can only keep a good David Bowie/Labyrinth joke up for so long, I blog because I like to write, I like to tell bad jokes, and I like to do the opposite of what you do with STDs, and share these things with people.

I believe it’s important to have a creative outlet to keep sane. Everyone needs a way to express themselves. Just ask Madonna. It’s also a lot of fun (or disappointing) seeing how many (or how few) people care about a given subject.

4) You’re at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, and security has stopped you. It looks like you may be getting a strip search. Why?

Because I told security I have various narcotics shoved up my rectum. Truth is, there are only a couple of GI Joes up there, but when you have the opportunity to have the gentle gloved hands of Javier AND Beatrice poke around your nether regions, you don’t pass it up.

5) What is your proudest blog-related moment?

You mean, besides this moment?

Probably when the website started to take off a bit. I think most bloggers have visions their site is going to be overflowing with fans from the get-go, but the reality is that there are millions of blogs out there, so if you’re not advertising or offering giveaways (which I don’t), finding an audience is tough. It’s also tough when you don’t have a niche and my website is as random as they come.

I think the internet is swarming with the debris of leftover blogs that were started, abandoned and left to rot. CorruptCamel.com isn’t overflowing with traffic, but I get enough to keep me motivated and the numbers are continually growing.

6) What opposite-sex-of-you celebrity would you want to play you in the movie-version of your life?

If she were still alive, Bea Arthur. She’s tall, strong and sexy as hell.

7) Your blog has hit it big – a million hits came in yesterday. Just as many are expected tomorrow what do you post for tomorrow?

Nude pictures of my ex-girlfriend. Finally, a large enough audience to provide the appropriate level of humiliation…Of course, I’m kidding. I’d actually post an exclusive interview with the hilarious and fantastic Brad Stanley.

*My work buddy L came up with this awesome questions. Though he’s never seen this blog.

Big thanks to CorruptCamel for answering the questions – be sure to check out his fantastico blog here.

And look for another interview next (month? I don’t know) with …TBD! (Oooh, cliff hanger!)
